Informational Text with Comprehension Task: Jewish American History–Jews in Colonial America

This fun and engaging cross-curricular reading comprehension activity utilizes multiple close reading strategies: text-marking, context clues, writing, and summarizing.

With this hands-on activity, students “earn” items for their Colony Flag as they complete each task. The activities are designed to generate excitement about reading. Students must read the passage multiple times, searching for evidence for each task.

This resource is designed for independent, pair work, or whole class. It would also be excellent for centers. The students will color and build their claw machines, and upon completing each task, they will earn an item to color, cut, and glue. You can use this resource during one class period, in centers, over several days, or even as homework.

*Average time needed to complete all of the tasks: 45-60 minutes
