The Stolen Sapling Mystery Challenge Scavenger Hunt

This fun and engaging cross-curricular reading comprehension activity utilizes multiple close reading strategies as the students rotate through the Reading Cards to find the Code Words to decipher the Mystery Clue Word.

This scavenger hunt has TWO components:

Part 1: The children will read 10 short passages on 10 READING CARDS.

• Each card has a CODE WORD CLUE following the reading passage.
• The answer to the CODE WORD CLUE will be found on another READING CARD. The clue is not answered on the card it is on
• This requires students to read and reread the passages carefully.
• After finding each code word, students must write it on their answer sheet.

Part 2: Using the code words on each clue card, the students will unscramble the letters in the gray-shaded boxes to reveal the final word. With this hands-on activity, students “earn” items for their Rosh Hashana claw machine as they complete each task. The activities are designed to generate excitement about reading. Students must read the passage multiple times, searching for evidence for each task.
